BROTHER KHONAN
WHAT IS DEATH FOR IMMORTALS?
Perhaps it wasn't wise to consort with a dark cult and definitely wasn't wise to consort within the walls of Overna. However, perhaps there were few better to preach to a cult of eternal life than one of the few immortals that does not walk between the interim of life and death. Though the Shadar's Bane cult did not know of his origins, Brother Khonan found it an amusing notion to play with as he skulked between the streets with his hood casting shadows on the evershifting scars.
He was there for an annual gathering of which he had been a rare attendee over the years. None of them had realized that he wasn't truly buying into their faith but rather a mere observer and researcher of their sermons. On rare occasions on his rare visits, he was brought up to speak and he tried his best to reaffirm their somewhat twisted worldviews rather than inject his own. That was not his place.
Still, he could understand their goal: the end of death. Some of the cultists were invested for their own but the real fanatics were the ones ending it for a larger, grander purpose yet not even they could compare to the members with a deep personal stake in the group. It was interesting to see the different ways they approached the concept based on their background — the scattered cult doesn't really have a united figure aside from Grim and his actions. Their virtues vary greatly depending on their sect.
Their group had recently relocated to a new, larger hideaway in the tunnels beneath the capital far below the undercity. Overna was an old, old city and many of its ancient districts lie beneath the earth, nearing the Felands. Sometimes, something else was buried under here. Namely, a Faceless Temple.
The Brother had observed the torch-lit temple as it slowly came into view after hours of trekking through caverns. From the architecture, he could tell it was a Faceless Temple. These temples were made long before the Empire stood, dating rampantly between eras and none have traced them back to a particular religion. The only thing marking them to a religious purpose was their direct link to the leylines. Nowadays, they're inhabited by a multitude of different groups across the world, including the Shadar's Bane Cult.
Brother Khonan began his trek down towards the temple.
