The Mad Emperor | Imperius The Shade |
Two Weeks After Errondur Declares War
Khalon's mind was a whirling mess of scattered memory and raging voices vying for control. His head laying in his hand as the all too familiar headache gave rise to a fierce ringing in his ears. Then in a moment, I'm the twinkling of an eye the emperor sat upright upon his throne with an evil grin. The fire in his gaze intimidating and demanding respect.
Imperius had forced himself into the light once again. As the voices of his other personas become nothing more then a whisper. His snarled at the servant boy who filled his challice with red wine and waved in dismissal as he left the room. "Viceroy, send word for the duke to come before me. I've made him wait long enough."
A full day and half of waiting in the guest room was obviously an insult to the Duke of Furiya, but Imperious didn't care. All he wanted was to make Khalons life miserable, what better way then to provoke a war, perhaps even a civil war. He clapped his hands excitedly in anticipation. As if savoring the moment, fully expecting the poor half orc to enter with an attitude.
The annoying beast of a man waltzed into his city with five hundred Furiyan Gendarie at his walls. Even if the man was desperate, Imperius was determined to make him wait. To let the insult burn into the dukes mind and fester. Was it something Khalon would do? Of course not... But he wasn't Khalon, he was the spirit of a dragon, a Grigori of immense power.
As far as Imperious was concerned, he could do what he liked with the emperors life and nobody had any right to stop him. As the door to the throne room creaked open he kicked his feet like a giddy child. The thought of manipulating this wretched nobleman into turning against the empire gave him joy.
When he finally caught a glimpse of the duke as he entered the room he took another swig of wine from his glass. Imperius waited for the man to follow proper protocol he smiled. Enjoying the brief humiliation of his lessers. "My dear Baerm Zephey, what a surprise to see you this far north... and with an army at my doorstep no less, I do hope you have a good explanation for this unannounced visit of yours."

Imperial Palace - The Throne Room
The half orc Duke entered the throne room with an air of rage, cloaked in false respect. As he bowed before the emperor he secretly wished he was somewhere else... anywhere else. Everything about this man pissed him off. His sickly physique, his stupid grin, his stupid hair, his stupid face.
As far as Baerm was concerned, this emperor was a failed leader who didn't deserve the royal blood running through his veins. As he raised his head, the Duke was forced to fake a smile and take the insults with grace. Oh how I'd like to kick this bastards teeth in. The thought of his fist crushing the emperors jaw was delightful, but unfortunately imaginary.
"I've been given warning that the wall up north is need of reinforcements your majesty. My goal in visiting here was merely to receive your blessing and hopefully take whatever forces you are willing to spare up north to Athigard."
The words tasted like bile when he spoke them. Baerm knew the law, dukes were only allowed to muster a force of Gendarie if the empire itself was threatened. To walk up to the capital with several hundred of his own Gendarie guards without warning or reason was practically treason.
But Baerm didn't care, he had seen the visions of the black wizard and knew all of them were in danger. "I hope you will forgive the unexpected arrival. But according to my information, Athigard will be over run soon if we don't send our forces there immediately to reinforce the wall."

The Mad Emperor | Imperius The Shade |
Two Weeks After Errondur Declares War
Imperius made a crooked grin before gulping down the last of his red wine. Waving for the servant girl to refill it immediately. As he leaned forward and crossed one leg over the other, the emperor listened intently to the dukes words. A pitiful excuse for bringing a small army to his doorstep.
But as imperious considered the wall, he tried recalling memories of the place, but to no avail. Of course he had heard of the great black iron wall of athigard. But did he actually care if it fell? It would certainly put an end to his torment of Khalon. Which he was not particularly pleased about.
As the young girl scurried back to refill his chalice, the shade wondered if delaying the inevitable was even worth the effort. Sure, he would get more time to ruin Khalons life, but was that worth the effort. As these thoughts swirled in the emperors already broken mind he made an audible sigh.
"First things first... Who gave you this Intel and why haven't I heard of this? Second, don't you know we're in the middle of a war with Errondur? You couldn't have chosen a worse time to ask for troops. But I may be willing to assist... Under certain conditions."
